Broad Highway Project Team Cited as Model of Excellence
Partnering Results in Quality, Innovation, Decreased Costs & Customer Focus
The I-40/98th Street to West Center Interchange Project partnership included the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT); design consultant Parsons-Brinckerhoff; Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA)/SunCal; ITS designer Telvent Farradyne; City of Albuquerque; project contractor Salls Brothers Construction Inc. and designers Bohannon Huston and Gannett Fleming West.
Partnering and innovation were integral to the I-40/98th Street Interchange Project, where more than 2.292 miles of I-40 will be reconstructed, a truck climbing lane added and construction drainage improvements made adjacent to I-40.
The NMDOT team recognized early on the value of partnering. Multiple projects equal many disruptions, work and rework. Partnering eliminates or reduces the amount of work required, reduces project costs and, most important, minimizes the impact on the traveling public to a single construction project rather than multiple projects over several years.
